Cardiology unit
The Cardiology group has a programme of work that incorporates interlinked facets of both clinical and basic science. Clinical research interests centre on the investigation of acute coronary syndromes, myocardial infarction, and acute and chronic heart failure. Professor Fox has lead, chaired and overseen several major international multi-centre trials in acute coronary syndromes. including the RITA-3, OASIS-2, ESSENCE, CURE and PCI-CURE trials. Complementing this background of clinical research, there is an active and successful basic clinical research programme in endothelial and vascular function with particular reference to the regulation of blood flow, haemostasis and fibrinolysis.
This programme has built upon established work and continues to examine some of the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms involved in atherosclerosis, inflammation, ischaemia and thrombogenesis
