Strategic funding

CVS has been successful in a series of competitions for strategic funding, that have been used to develop training programmes, core facilities and strategic links with collaborating partners:

  • Wellcome Trust Cardiovascular Research Initiative (£7M 1998-2005)
  • British Heart Foundation 4-year PhD Programme (2003 - date; currently 7 students per annum)
  • British Heart Foundation Integrative Physiology Award (£5M 1999-2005)
  • British Heart Foundation Imaging Facility (£1.7M 2005)
  • British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Infrastructure Initiative (£4.4M 2005)
  • Two British Heart Foundation Chairs (Profs Keith Fox and David Newby)

A flagship award is the British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence (£7.6M 2008-2014), directed by Prof John Mullins, which is hosted in CVS. Further details of this initiative are on the BHF CoRE website.

CVS is a partner in several collaborative strategic awards, including:
